Oh, the trials of being a milkmaid...
Jun. 16th, 2009 11:46 amI've been sick for days, now, but I think I'm finally feeling better. My first priority today is work in the dairy. We're out of jars completely - I've got my milk pail in the fridge with 4 pounds (1/2 gallon) of milk right now and cling film on the top because I've nothing to put the milk in - and the fridge is so full I'm sure it's about to explode. Not to mention that the older milk is going to start to go off soon.
What I have to make:
Hrudka (eastern European egg custard/cheese)
Yoghurt/Labneh (strained yoghurt)
Cottage cheese
Mozzarella
Butter? (depends on how much cream is left)
I swear I'm forgetting something I should have on that list, but heck if I know what it is. In other news, I found our first pullet egg this morning! That means all our youngest chickens should be laying soon. And I'm very excited - it was a beautiful dark brown. We've not managed to get many brown egg-layers yet, just white and blue.
I'm writing again, finally, but right now I'm actually working on on of my original novels. I read a great book the other day that inspired me to start world-building for this project again. I can't wait to get that done enough to start the re-write.
